Some design flaws,

I am a working mother and have been using this system for more than 4 months. So far I haven't had a need to store milk for longer than 4 days, so I can't really comment if this system actually extends the milk's "shelf life", but can't complain about that either. However, almost every day I use this product I wonder what were the designers thinking. Here is why:
1. The bottles, except for the large 8 oz ones, just can't stay upright. The orange tops, while aesthetically pleasing and cheery, are too heavy for the bottles and make them tip over at a slightest breeze.
2. It's not visible in the picture, but there is an air vent piece for the feeding bottle that looks like a plastic straw. This piece has to be attached to the nipple to provide better ventilation (supposedly) and reduce gas and burping. But to me this is just another piece to wash and, possibly, to lose. Our other bottle is Avent, it doesn't require any tiny pieces and performs just as well. Actually...Read more

Using this system to store breastmilk...,

I love this product. I've been using it for the last month while preparing to go back to work and introducing my son to bottle. I got extra storage and feeding bottles to have 8oz, 5oz and 2.5oz bottle sizes.
STORAGE:
From personal experience, pumping air out of wine bottles helps the wine retain its flavor a few days longer than just using a cork or other type of cap. So, when I found the MilkBank Vacuum Storage system, it was a no brainer getting it to store breastmilk.
I've learned from reading about breastmilk storage that fresh breastmilk retains more nutrients than frozen. Using breastmilk storage bags, I could never completely remove all the air from the bags. Plus, I would always put the storage bags in the freezer rather than the fridge for fear of the milk turning on me. Now, I keep vacuum sealed MilkBank storage bottles in the fridge.
I'm so glad Dex came up with this product. Using the rule of 6 (6hrs/room temp, 6 days/back of...Read more

I'm a stay at home Mom and have used the Milkbank system for about 3 months now. This is a great storage system especially compared to the disposable bags. I save a lot more money coz i can re-use the containers and also not feel too bad when I don't have much milk to pump at one sitting. If you need to write dates on it, then you would have to come up with your own system. What I do is I freeze the extra milk, put that in zip loc bags and date the bags. (ziploc bags are bpa free too).
I've never used the white travel caps coz there's no vacuum in the containers if we use those. I use only the orange storage caps but not sure if they leak if turned upside down. The other thing I don't really use is their bottle system. The container is the same but they just use a different screw top that is suitable for the nipple and you can also use the insulation cover. I don't find the insulation very impressive as the milk seems to be cold after an hour, even when I put hot...Read more
