Product Review
The special design of Medela?s Nipple Shield, which is worn over the nipple and areola, permits the flow of breastmilk and provides a larger surface for baby to latch on to. However, because they may diminish the stimulation needed to sustain lactation, nipple shields should be used only under professional care. Weekly weight checks are recommended during use. Available in standard size only (24mm). One shield per pack. Personal care item - cannot be returned.
- constructed of thin pure silicone
- autoclavable
- individual sterile packed
- helps with latch-on difficulties
- only one per package

will cause baby preference to nipple shield over mommy's nipple,

the niple shield is fantastic at preventing soreness, but do not use it too long! use as directed, use for a few minutes then remove and let baby latch on to your nipple. if you do not, baby will get used to sucking nipple shield only and will not want your nipple :( also kepping them clean is a lot of work when you are nursing every 2 hours and baby is screaming. buy a bunch and keep one in your nursing bra (right or left side depending on which side you will be feeding from next) above your nipple (not on it) for convenience after cleaning it so it is ready for next use.

Lifesaver!,

These nipple shields are a lifesaver! I don't have inverted nipples, but my nipples are small and don't stick out much. I tried and tried to get the baby (our first) to latch on, but she would only suck for 1 or 2 seconds and then disconnect, so we would have to repeatedly try to get her to latch on again and again with the same 1 or 2 seconds results. The baby would soon scream and cry out of frustration/hunger and I was so disappointed and upset that she couldn't latch on. I was determined not to give up. We eventually tried the nipple shield and the baby immediately latched on and was able to nurse! It was amazing. I did try to use the nipple shield for a few minutes and then removed it to see if she could continue breastfeeding without it, but my nipples would quickly go back down to their small size and then she couldn't stay latched on. I have just given up and decided that I will use the nipple shield until I am no longer nursing. Our pediatrician said that she used the...Read more

Nipple Shields = AMAZING!,

Since the day my little one was born, he had trouble latching on. After speaking to several lactation consultants and trying several positions and holds...nothing seemed to work to get my little one to latch on. I resorted to pumping and feeding him breastmilk from a bottle. I was in tears knowing that i was unable to breastfeed directly from breast. after much research and continous attempts to get the little one to latch i found the nipple shields to be simply phenomenal. he latches on so much better with the nipple shields. I plan on continuing using the shields until i no longer breastfeed.
