Medela Freestyle Breast Pump Replacement Tubing

Comment: I called Medela today to get replacement tubing for a Freestyle pump that a friend gave me. The customer service rep told me it was $12, but when I mentioned I was buying replacement tubing for a used breastpump, she said she had to refuse to sell it to me because breastpumps are a "single user product" and the FDA requires them not to sell replacement parts if they are knowingly selling to someone for a previously used pump. She said the previous users' breastmilk could back up into the motor and infect my baby and I with unknown viruses or diseases. Seriously? I think this is HIGHLY unlikely, given that breastmilk never touches the motor of the pump, and I will still be using the pump I got used, but just BE CAREFUL what you say if you are purchasing replacement parts for a used pump (as MANY people do, given how many are on craigslist), or Medela can outright refuse to allow you to purchase from them.

While all this may be true, it does seem that it benefits Medela financially if they say that pumps are a "single user product"...that way everyone who uses their pumps HAS to purchase them new from the company. And if this is so, why is Medela not doing something to encourage recycling of the motors and accessories for these pumps that are used a few years and then completely useless, since they are a "single user product"??? I know Medela makes the best breastfeeding products on the market, but this whole experience left me feeling annoyed with corporate America.

Comment: I was looking for replacement tubing online, I noticed that no one had it for sale except 1 person on amazon. I called the company Medela and come to find out they took it off of retail and they will actully send it to you for free!!! They will also over-night it with no extra cost!!!
