2.0 out of 5 stars Prefer Lansinoh Bags, April 5, 2011

I originally started with Ameda's storage bags to work with my Ameda pump. They seemed convenient because I could pump directly into them and they had a pour spout on the actual bag. What I found is that those bags were extremely inaccurate in their volume measurement and a lot of the fat in the breast milk seemed to adhere to the inside of the bags even after having warmed the milk under running water. Also, I didn't care to actually pump into the bag since it was not something that could be set down until the flange was removed.

I subsequently ordered the Lansinoh bags and was very happy with them in contrast to the Ameda bags. The measurement is significantly more accurate, they will hold 2 oz more than the Ameda bags (6 oz. vs. 4 oz.), and all of the breast milk makes it out of the bag. Also, because of the difference in shape, the Lansinoh bags freeze thinner (when frozen lying flat). The double seal is also a nice feature that the Ameda bags do not have.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good overall, March 1, 2011

I'm responding to the bad review on the bags. You don't need to create a vacuum seal around the flange adapter with the bag. I reviewed the product with the 40ct version so I won't go into too much detail. The bags work totally fine if you set it up correctly. Without knowing exactly how she set it up, I suspect what she did wrong is neglecting to put on the one way, white rubber valve. That's what creates the vacuum within the flange: When the pump sucks out the air, the valve closes creating the vacuum in the flange which pumps the milk. When it releases it opens the valve letting the milk into the bag. No seal around the adapter with the bag needed.

Overall, the bags worked as advertised and for storing milk. The measurements are way off - don't trust them - and open them very carefully the first time you use them. I haven't had any leaks or problems otherwise

Since going back to work and pumping for twins, I prefer these bags hand down. There's no need to transfer milk, it is so easy to use the adapter and pump right into the bag, seal, and store. The pour spout is also a very handy feature. One thing to look out for, be sure you close these VERY tightly. I have had a few bags leak because I didn't triple check. But, overall I rave about these bags.
